New Arrivals

The Last One by Alexandra Oliva
Survival is the name of the game, as the line blurs between reality TV and reality itself—and one woman’s mind and body are pushed to the limit.
All Is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker.
In the small, affluent town of Fairview, Connecticut everything seems picture perfect. Until one night when young Jenny Kramer is attacked at a local party. In the hours immediately after, she is given a controversial drug to medically erase her memory of the violent assault. But, in the weeks and months that follow, as she heals from her physical wounds, and with no factual recall of the attack, Jenny struggles with her raging emotional memory.

My indoor plants are blooming but I’m still awaiting the arrival of spring weather and some outdoor color. Aside from a few brave daffodils and some green grass, it’s still pretty barren in the garden. A dusting of snow yesterday didn’t help!
I finally got my income taxes done with a few days to spare. I know, I waited until the last minute. But as a former tax consultant, taxes are the last thing I wanted to think about. And I tend to procrastinate anyway.
Just one new book last week. . .
New Arrivals

Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler from LibraryThing.
Anne Tyler’s retelling of The Taming of the Shrew asks whether a thoroughly modern, independent woman like Kate would ever sacrifice herself for a man. The answer is as individual, off-beat and funny as Kate herself.

Almost wordless: Apparently orchids thrive on neglect. After my mini-orchid finished blooming two years ago, I put it in the garden window and pretty much forgot about it. I never repotted it or fertilized it and only watered it a couple of times a month. I thought it was dead. And then – surprise! Flowers.

A few new books arrived last week, and hopefully spring is here too. We had a crazy Midwestern weekend of rain, hail, snow, wind, and then 70 degree warmth on Sunday. So I went out in the garden for an hour or so and stretched pulled a few muscles cleaning up some of the winter debris.
