Wordless Wednesday: Fledgling Sparrows
Almost wordless: A family of House Sparrows left their nest a few days ago. They have been entertaining me with their curiosity and attempts to fly.

Thanks. My camera is a Canon Rebel XSi (D450). It’s a step below the professional camera. I used a 250mm zoom lens, but the baby birds let me get fairly close to them. They don’t know to be afraid of people yet.

I love watching fledged sparrows, and it’s the time of year for that here, too. I will never forget the time Papa Sparrow brought all four kiddies over to where I used to put down seed. All four were flapping and cheeping to beat the band. Papa was shoveling seed into any open beak within reach in an effort to shut them up. The shoveling happened to include the open beak of a pigeon that wandered too close. I don’t know which was more shocked, Papa or the pigeon! LOL

The pigeon story is too funny. I’ve never seen that before.
Fledglings are one of the big reasons I leave my feeders up in the summer. I get a great view of the babies. Yesterday I had dad House Finch bring two little ones for safflower seed. That wing fluttering is a dead giveaway!
