Wordless Wednesday: Cardinal Flower

cardinalflower

Almost wordless: A lone Cardinal Flower along the path in the park. I have tried unsuccessfully to grow these in my wildflower garden.

The color is so intense. I wonder why it won’t grow in your wildflower garden?

My guess is not enough water. The park where I see them has a lot of wetland areas. The varieties I’ve tried were native to my area, but I don’t water them once the plant is established. None of them came back the next year. Oh, and one year the bunny ate them!
