Wordless Wednesday: Resurrection Lily
Almost wordless: The resurrection lilies popped up right on schedule. This plant has an unusual life cycle. Foliage emerges in the spring and and dies off after several weeks. As summer wanes, it sends up tall stalks with flowers, usually blooming by August 1st.

I can understand why it’s called the “resurrection lily”. Ho unusual for a plant to flower with withered foliage. Lovely photo.

At last a name for it, this Lilly grows on all the verges throughout Santa Maria Island, Azores. I would love to know it’s real taxonomic name ? Here it is referred to ‘children go to school’ as flowering coincides with start of fall term early Sept to October flowering range. Foliage appears strongly in December and dies off by April.
