Wordless Wednesday: Black Swallowtail Butterfly
Almost wordless: This looks like the male. Females have a wider band of blue spots. Last week I spotted a swallowtail caterpillar in my parsley.

So beautiful. You either have a very long lens or unusually quiet feet. (;

Gorgeous! The colorful background is a nice contrast with the mostly black butterfly. Love it.

Oh that one definitely needs words. A recently emerged, stunningly beautiful animal! Still with its swallow tails! Do you have dill or parsley in your garden?

Ok, I re-read your caption. You have parsley, and probably more beautiful butterflies to come.

Hi Leslie,
You have captured this shot perfectly and what a lovely specimen he is. I could quite happily sit in a butterfly house all day, just watching these lovely creatures at work, so peaceful and serene.
I always find it quite amazing that in the insect and animal world, the male of the species is almost always the most beautifully marked and coloured, whilst many of the females can look so plain and dowdy in comparison. Let’s just hope that in today’s world of the ‘metrosexual’ man, the human race isn’t heading the same way in a few decades time! …
Thanks for sharing,
Yvonne.
