Saturday Snapshot: A Bloom in the Winter

My Gerbera Daisy, with no encouragement from me, decided to bloom. Yesterday I found this bright red flower. A nice winter surprise.

Gerbera Daisy

I bring some of my garden plants indoors every winter. I put them in a sunny window, give them a little water, and pretty much forget about them until spring. Rarely do these plants bloom in the house, plus they don’t get enough sunshine in the winter. I’ll enjoy spring in my laundry room window while it lasts!

Absolutely fabulous! Love the color, and what better place than the laundry room.

I have always believed in bringing color to the rooms where we do chores. I once painted the laundry room a mustard yellow (looked prettier than it sounds!).

That is beautiful! I’ve done nothing but kill the plants in my house. I tried to keep a poinsettia alive and I know it didn’t get enough sun. We need more southern exposure windows (we don’t have any), so our house is rather dark in the winter. We do have many lamps to help with that, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference with the plants. 🙂

Poinsettia is one of the few plants I can’t keep alive either. They require very specific temperature and hours of daylight so it’s not just you. Peace Lilies will thrive in a north window. I have a few and mine even make flowers so you could try those.

WOW! What a surpirse. My geranium is still blooming indoors, but my Amaryllis did not this year. Usually it is an intense burst of color for Christmas. Maybe next year!

My geraniums are still blooming too. They do it every year but this was a first for the Gerbera. I haven’t tried Amaryllis.
