Mailbox Monday and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday was created by The Printed Page. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their home last week.

Mailbox Monday is currently on tour, hosted by a different blog each month. The October host is Marcia at The Mailbox Monday Blog.

A win from Anna at Diary of an Eccentric:

Diary of a One Night Stand by Alexandrea WeisDiary of a One Night Stand
by Alexandrea Weis

Resilient and practical, Kara Barton has continually strived to live a respectable life. She went to college, embarked on a promising career as an attorney, married a great guy, and always appeared to be the perfect wife and mother. But all is not what it seems, and the troubling past Kara has been running from her entire life is about to catch up with her. Urged on by her insecurities about growing older, and desperately wanting to feel one more night of passion, Kara agrees to share a tryst in a hotel room with a sexy business associate, Scott Ellsworth. But Scott wants more than one night together… more

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

Share what you read last week and what you are currently reading.

I finished listening to This is How You Lose Her by Junot Díaz, a passionate, emotional collection of stories focusing on Yunior’s relationships, mostly of the various women in his life and his family. Short but powerful.

I reviewed What the Zhang Boys Know, a beautifully written collection of interrelated stories each centering on one of the residents of a condominium building in a gentrifying area of Washington, DC. I have one copy for giveaway to readers with an address in the US or Canada.

Reading/Listening This Week:

I’m listening to The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman over the next two weeks for the RIP VII Group read hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings. I’m almost finished listening to The Three Day Affair by Michael Kardos, a debut crime novel from the newly relaunched Mysterious Press. While a bit unrealistic, it’s quite entertaining and a pleasant surprise.

The Dog Stars by Peter HellerNW by Zadie Smith I’ve been threatening to read The Dog Stars for a few weeks now and this is the week I finally read it, no more excuses.

Next up in audio is NW by Zadie Smith.

It sounds like you’re in the same place I am right now – without audio books I wouldn’t be getting much reading done. Congratulations on your win!

True! It seems like the last two weeks have been extra busy and now I have the added work of getting the yard cleaned up and ready for (ugh) winter.

This is How You Lose Her was quite different from what I normally read. I’ll have my review up tomorrow.

Diary of a One Night Stand kind of sounds like Fatal Attraction in reverse.

Anna read the Diary of a One Night Stand and enjoyed it even though it was not her typical read. Happy reading.

I keep forgetting that I have The Dog Stars on my shelf. I got incredibly lucky and found it on a book swap site right after it released. I should be making a list of books on my shelf that I want to read this winter (you know, because I really need another excuse to sift through my books and make a list). 🙂

I keep a list on my google calendar… not that ever stick to it! Dog Stars has been near the top of it for over a month now. And to make it worse, it’s a book I really do want to read.

Audio books are good, but I can’t sit long enough. 🙂 I used to listen to them on my way back and forth to work or on trips.

    ENJOY!!!

I never sit and listen to audio. I listen while I multitask… gardening, driving, cooking, doing boring house chores, etc.

Thanks again. I like to read a romance every once in a while… as long as it isn’t the kind with Fabio on the cover!

Thanks, it was time to bring out the fall decorations. It’s difficult to believe it’s autumn already and I’m raking leaves (which is good for audiobook listening!).

I don’t think I’ve read any Gaiman, isn’t that kinda nuts? I should pick up something of his for RIP as well. I’ll be looking forward to your reviews of NW and The Dog Stars, both are books I’m very curious about!

Have a great week of reading 😉

You can still join the group read for The Graveyard Book. It goes on for another week or so. And it’s really a good book.

Some great reads this week. I haven’t read any Gaiman before, but the title sounds great. 🙂

If you’d like to stop by, here’s what I’m reading this week.
