Audiobook Week Begins Today

Audiobook Week Kicks Off Today

June is Audiobook Month and today begins Audiobook Week, hosted by Jen at Devourer of Books. There will be discussions, daily reviews, link-ups and other activities including prizes for participants and commenters.

I have been listening to audiobooks for a few years now and am always preaching their virtues. It’s a great way to squeeze in a few extra books. I have listened to 28 audiobooks already this year, and the year is only half over. All of these were while I was multitasking doing some household chore, driving, walking, gardening; I never just sit and listen. If I’m sitting, I’m reading.

A list of links to this year’s audio reviews can be found HERE and last year’s are HERE.

A Few Favorites

These are a few that I especially enjoyed. The audio production and the story were superb:

Bossypants by Tina FeyArt of Fielding by Chad Harbach

Audiobook Goodness All Week

There will be lots of audiobook goodness happening this week. Tomorrow I will have a Question & Answer post with Sheila at Book Journey and we will be chatting about all things audio and hopefully convincing a few more readers to give ‘listening’ a try. There will also be some prizes to win.

I am currently giving away an audiobook as part of the Literary Blog Hop, enter by Wednesday 6/27.

Stop by the Audiobook Week discussion post and linky for more good stuff.

Are you participating in Audiobook Week?

I just finished Bossypants last week, and it is very entertaining. And The Art of Fielding is one I’d love to listen to sometime. You’ve had an excellent year in audiobooks so far! Happy audiobook week 🙂

Hi, Leslie. I am back after a vacation and blogging break. It’s good to be back!

I wish I listened to more audio books. I just cannot seem to work them into my routine. The only time I am able to listen to them is during long car trips.

Tomorrow Sheila (Book Journey) and I will have some tips on working audio into your routine. Maybe some of them will help. It took me a while to do it and I have a funny story for tomorrow too.

I love audio books for the same reason – I can be productive and get in more reading time!!! I just figured out how to get audios onto my iPod, so now I even listen while at the gym!

Once I figured out how to get them on the iPod the number of books I listened to skyrocketed.

Bossypants was excellent. I read it by audiobook, so I wouldn’t have to look at Alec Baldwin’s arms the whole time. I might have to try 11/22/63 on audio. Probably would get to it faster than my ebook copy.

I highly, highly, recommend 11/22/63 on audio. It’s long, but it was so well done I was thinking up chores to do so I could continue listening. I raked the entire yard on a cool windy day and I really dislike raking!

I love The Art of Fielding too. I started listening to 11/22/63 on CD audio and there just was not good places to stop so I am going to request it as an e-audiobook to listen on the iPod that is easier to have starts and stops.

Thanks for mentioning Book Journey! I think I overlooked her Day #1 of Audiobook Week post. I’m trying to read everyone’s posts, but it’s hard! I loved your comment about preaching the virtues of audiobooks. I guess I’m always trying to convert people too!

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was amazing – one of my favorites! I read a sample of 11/22/63 on my Nook and loved it, but haven’t purchased yet. Think I’ll check out the audio instead.

I also loved Bossypants. I’ve been wanting to read Henrietta Lacks – will have to see if my library has it on audio.

I so wish I had listened to Bossypants instead of reading it…I think Tina Fey would have made the difference for me.
