Armchair BEA: Introduction
Welcome to Armchair BEA
Armchair BEA is an online networking event for bloggers that will not be attending Book Expo America in New York this week.
This year’s Armchair BEA theme is all about community. One of the goals is to encourage bloggers to get to know each other and visit other participating blogs. In previous years there would be an interview day where bloggers would ask another blogger a series of questions. This year, we have been asked to interview ourselves by answering a few questions.
An Introduction
Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
I’m an eclectic reader and enjoy a wide variety of books. If the subject interests me, I'll give the book a chance. Favorites are science and speculative fiction, contemporary and historical fiction, mysteries, thrillers and narrative non-fiction. I love audiobooks and half of my reading is actually listening.
Until recently I worked as a Tax Consultant in downtown Chicago. The company was sold and now I am looking for a new job. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy the summer and read as much as I can.
What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
A favorite this year was The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani
What is your favorite feature on your blog?
Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
This brings me to my favorite feature, Weekend Birding, which I post on Saturdays. I showcase my bird photos, feature a specific bird, a book about birds, or anything bird related.
Where do you see your blog in five years?
It’s difficult to predict where the blog will be in five years. I hope to still be writing and involved in the book blogging community. Online media is growing exponentially and changing at a rapid pace. I’m sure it will be quite different than it is today.
If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?
Thanks For Visiting
Are you participating in Armchair BEA? The festivities will be going on all week and there is still plenty of time to join in.

Lovely answers, Leslie! I’m so excited to discover new bloggers this week during Armchair BEA! It’s my first time really stepping out into the blogging community, and I’m loving it! Hope you have a fabulous week!

Apparently I have been blogging in a void by myself not realizing there was this fabulous community waiting to be discovered. This is fun!

Good luck with moving your blog to your own hosting! I’m a little slow at learning those things, so power to you for doing that. Someday I’ll use my registered domain I’ve already paid for 🙂
I’ve dabbled in reading sci fi, I really like books that stretch the convention and appeal to a wider audience, but still utilize science fiction writing conventions. My example is Orson Scott Card – I love hsi Alvin Maker series, which isn’t sci fi but has mystical elements. He’s such a good storyteller, I’d read anything he writes.

Alvin Maker is my favorite fantasy series and favorite OSC books. I liked them better than the Ender books.

Oooh, a bird lover! I used to post a lot of nature pics to my blog but stopped doing that when my son graduated and I stopped spending so much time at the pool. I need to get back to wandering outside to photograph the wildlife.
Isaac Asimov would definitely be a fascinating dinner companion!

I have loved Adriana’s teen books, but never branched into her adult books. I might give that one a try though! I’m glad you joined ABEA! Tattooed Books

Good luck on the job hunt — I know it’s not easy, but persistence pays off.

I’m not much of a bird person, until I see a picture of one then I’m like in awe of the design that was used to create them. Thanks for stopping by the blog 🙂

The Shoemaker’s Wife is definitely one of my top reads for the year so far as well. Good luck with your move to self-hosting (I keep thinking about doing that) and with finding a new job!

Nice to meet you Leslie! Though I think I’ve come across your birding pictures once upon a lifetime. Remember thinking how beautiful they were. I also do about half my reading on audio these days. Makes a long commute go much quicker!
Hope you have a wonderful day!

I love that you do a bird feature every week! What a fun idea. I’ve been wanting to try photographing some that frequent my backyard. So pretty!
I’m sure eating dinner and chatting with Isaac Asimov would be SO interesting. It’d be fun to find out a little about the back story of his books.

Good luck finding a new job quickly 🙂 I know what that’s like-the law firm I got my very first big girl job at after college closed just months after I got hired. Did find a new job though 😉 Just wanted to drop by and say how much I adore your weekend birding posts!

Not participating in the Armchair BEA, but reading all of the posts has been fun. It’s always great learning a bit more about fellow book bloggers. Leslie — of course I enjoy your blog.

It’s true; five years is a long time in the digital world. I can’t imagine having a plan for my blog that far in advance!
