Weekend Birding: Lincoln Marsh

Lincoln Marsh I’m lucky to live in an area with many nature trails, marshes and wetlands that are open to the public.

Last week I went for a long walk at Lincoln Marsh which has several ponds and marshes along with wooded areas which makes it a great place to see birds and other wildlife. The trails are well maintained and have many areas to sit and relax while enjoying nature.

I was happy to find this little male Eastern Bluebird within camera range. They never want to sit still for me but this guy stayed on that branch for over a minute.

This Song Sparrow was busy building a nest. His or her (they look alike) beak is filled with building materials.

There were American Robins everywhere. They are one of the easiest birds to photograph. Usually they walk up to you and pose and this guy was no exception.

You and I both “show and tell” about our visits to wetlands this week! I love bluebirds. The last time I saw one was during a May snowstorm up on the Mogollon Rim.

Great pictures! I didn’t know a bluebird was in fact… blue! How nice to see.

And there are three different kinds of bluebirds. The Mountain Bluebird in the northwest is all blue and even brighter.

I haven’t seen an Eastern Bluebird since out years in NC. But Robins? We’ve got tons of those here in Ontario. I love how industrious and focused birds are when it comes to nest building.

The blue bird is amazing, and I can’t believe how much that tiny sparrow can carry in his beak:) cute.

I enjoyed the birds, as usual, but that bench by the water is calling to me!

I live within walking distance of a beautiful park that has interesting areas, like a Japanese tea garden and a duck pond; I must really get over that way soon!

The picture of the bluebird took me right back to my second grade classroom, the year we studied different types of birds. I must have fallen in love with the bluebird. Great shots. Here’s Mine

Gorgeous birds, Leslie! I love the bluebird especially, but the sparrow is certainly working hard. Always love seeing what you’ve photographed.

Beautiful! bluebirds are my very favorite songbird … we keep trying to attract them to our lower yard (it’s more meadow-like and quieter).

I would love to get them to come to my yard, but so far no visitors.

I love birds, and these are just such timely, gorgeous shots. ‘Specially the bluebird.
But the comment about the tameness of the robin reminds me of something that happened to me yesterday. I parked my car at work and got out to go in, and two ducks were waddling down a slope towards me. So I stopped and they walked right up to me. I couldn’t believe it, because I am right in the city there. So I opened my lunch bag and tore off all my pizza crusts and knelt down and they came right up and were nipping it all right out of my hand. It was surreal.
    — Cheers.

I’ve noticed that the ducks and geese in the city and at the parks are pretty friendly here too. Probably because people feed them. I had a squirrel walk up to me and beg!

I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a bluebird like that. Thanks for sharing the photo!

Those all look great! I think part of the reason I have a hard time photographing birds in my backyard is that my dog scares them off.

Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments. I was participating in the 24 hour read-a-thon today so I didn’t get a chance to visit other Saturday Snapshots yet but I will be by on Sunday (after I get some sleep!).

How wonderful to do the readathon- I’ve never done one of those, I hope you got lots of reading done. I loved your pictures today. I was surprised that the first one was a bluebird (not that I really know all that much about North American birds), but I figured it was a robin- and then you showed me a robin too! Lovely pictures as always.
