Wordless Wednesday: Backyard Visitor

Almost Wordless: What I thought was a large cat on my fence turned out to be a possum with insomnia.

What the heck is that? It’s cute in its own way but also looks like you’d want to give it a wide berth…

A possum. It seemed friendly but I used the zoom lens and didn’t get too close.

I should know better than to comment in the middle of the night, as I did last night! I see now that you identified the creature in your comment below the photo. Sorry about that! 🙂

I’m impressed that it was able to get itself to the top of your fence. Great shot (as usual)!

It was already up there when I spotted it. It continued on to the neighbors fence and kept going.

I’ve never seen a possum (they don’t live where I do)! What a funny creature to encounter. If I saw one here on the garden fence I’d take a 4-double take and still wonder what I was looking at. Lovely picture!

They are nocturnal so I don’t see them too often after sunrise. I ran for the camera when I realized it wasn’t a cat.

I had a standoff between a possum and my dog once in my backyear..it was not that cute.

Years ago my neighbors had one hiding under their deck and when they tried to shoo it away it started hissing and showing it’s many teeth. That one wasn’t very cute at all!

Ah — you actually make this guy look kinda cute! Possums have never been a favorite of mine — around us, if we see them, they tend to look a bit ratty. 🙂

I’ve seen ratty ones around too. This guy was big and looks well-fed.

They are such odd looking creatures! Usually I see them while I’m driving at night – running across the road (or the unlucky ones who didn’t make it across the road in time).

I’ve never seen a possum either. He’s sort cute, eh? In his own sort of way. Great shot!

I think you may be a little north of their range. As long as they don’t show their teeth or hiss they aren’t too bad to look at.

Great shot. I’ve never seen one in real life, well at least alive.

I have a friend in Seattle who lives in a mobile home. He had a possum take up residence underneath the trailer, and he had the dickens of a time getting the critter evicted. I think his home now resembles a fortress! LOL
