Saturday Snapshot: The Winter That Isn’t

The birds haven’t been cooperating and posing for photos this week. I didn’t feel like digging through my archives so instead I have some photos I took while out walking last week.

We haven’t been having very much winter weather in Chicago this year. In fact, most of the Midwest has been balmy. I don’t like snow or cold so this is just fine with me.

This is a small lake, really more like a pond, as it’s only a one mile walk around it. I have never seen it look this colorful in January; there is even some green in the grass. Usually there is no grass to be seen, only ice and snow. So yes, I’m enjoying this winter.

In contrast, the picture on the right is the same park in the winter of 2009. There is a lake out there, really there is. It’s frozen and covered in snow. Brrrrr.

That’s so pretty! But, yes, it looks more like an early spring day than a midwinter day.

I know, isn’t this weather crazy? It was 52 here in Michigan yesterday! The park is very pretty, even in the snow picture!

Nice pictures! We have a similar thing here: no winter yet! We had wet snow for 10 minutes in December and a few hail storms, but that’s all.

That’s quite a different winter for you! We are having the same problem in Australia- we haven’t had summer start yet. It’s been a very cool, slow, wet start to summer here. I only took the winter sheets off the bed this week! (about 3 or 4 months late)

It seems amazing that the lake isn’t frozen. You guys are having a warmer winter so far aren’t you? I think ours is about normal, but it could be a little colder and wetter and I wouldn’t complain. We need to recharge before next summer. That is a very pretty place to walk.

Oh, I vote for this winter! It looks like a wonderful walk…I’m going to have to walk farther afield, as I live just a couple miles from a great park. I could get some great shots. Yes, I’m almost feeling enthusiastic…lol

We have been having very schizophrenic weather — three days at or below freezing, followed by several days in the 50s. No snow either. Which is fine with me 🙂

Lovely shots of the park, and it is fun to see the same scene in snow covered mode.

That looks like a lovely place to walk! For the most part, it’s been balmy here, too. We’re supposed to reach 68 degrees today!

Those are great pictures! We’re having the same sort of winter here in Ohio, so if you need a bit of snow, check out my snapshot!

I can’t believe those photos are of Chicago in January! I love the contrast between your recent photos and the one from ’09!

It looks lovely! I’ve always wanted to visit somewhere that is so cold that lakes could freeze over. It doesn’t get that cold here, but we’ve been having rain in the upper 30s. I just think if it’s that cold and miserable it could at least snow for us here. 🙂

There’s quite a difference in those winter scenes – lovely photos. Here in NZ we’re wondering what has happened to summer as we’ve had nothing but cold and rain.

It’s balmy here in MS too…we took our daily walk yesterday in SHORTS! While I don’t mind a mild winter, it makes me worry about how hot it will be this summer 😦

Gee, what a lovely place to walk. I am so frustrated trying to keep squirrels from eating all the birdseed. Today were bought suet and cages and I’m leaving the feeder empty (1/2 gone in 6 hours). The squirrels called their friends.

I agree Leslie. I live on the other side of the Lake from you and am enjoying this balmy winter.
