Saturday Snapshot: Late Autumn Wetlands

Late autumn is good time to take photos of birds. The leaves have fallen from the trees making the birds easier to find, it’s not too cold yet and the lighting is soft and golden. While I was walking the trails at the park near my house I didn’t find any cooperative birds but I did notice the lighting on the new foot bridge was perfect for a photo. So today I have a bridge instead of birds.

I will be out most of the day Saturday counting birds for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Weekend Birding will be posted on Sunday and hopefully I’ll have some good photos and a story about Saturday’s bird outing.

I have am hosting a giveaway of two copies of Digital Photography: A Basic Manual. Only two more days to enter. Contest ends midnight Sunday, December 18th. Open to residents of US and Canada.

What a pretty little bridge. Winter is a great time to stomp around in the woods – no bugs!

Here in central Texas we’re getting final traces of fall color:

I love it! The bridge just invites you into the woods to explore. Wonderful light and shadows.

I like the way the light shines on the bridge and how it sits among the trees. Does the bridge cross a small brook?

There’s a small stream that runs across the property which is about 20 to 25 acres. There are also three ponds and some swampy areas. The park district has been building raised walks and bridges to make the park useable. It’s a great idea because the wetlands have so much more to offer in the way of wildlife and native plants than the typical manicured parks.

Another benefit of the missing leaves is the new shapes the sun leaves on the ground. Great photo. Here’s My Saturday Snapshot

That is a great picture! I keep scanning it with my eyes thinking i see a deer hiding among the trees, or a squirell…. 🙂

There are a lot of squirrels in there. I have yet to see a deer … however, there are some in the larger forest preserve about two miles down the road, so it wouldn’t surprise me to have one jump out at me someday.

I loved to play in a forest like the one in your photo when I was kid. And still do.
My enjoyment includes the birds and their songs.
