Thankfully Reading Weekend: Kickoff

Today is day one of Thankfully Reading Weekend, an excuse to do an obscene amount of reading over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

For many people here in the US, today is Black Friday, a traditional day of shopping, shopping, and more shopping. I dislike crowded shopping centers and will be avoiding them this weekend. That will give me time to catch up on some of my reading and even write a few reviews.

I have plenty of books to choose from and I’ve selected a few I want to have finished before the end of the year. I’m not the fastest reader on the planet but I do listen to a lot of audiobooks and should be able to get through a few of these. The weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm this weekend and my audiobooks will accompany me out in the garden and on walks.

Here’s what I chose, a little ambitious, I know.

I would like to finish
I Gave My Heart To Know This
and
Laughing At Wall Street

And make a start on
The Human Race, winner of the ugliest cover contest.

I’m currently three quarters of the way through Stephen King’s newest 11/22/63 and should get this finished today. It’s that good.

Then I’ll be listening to When Elves Attack, a little holiday humor.

And finally I want to spend some time with my camera and Digital Photography: A Basic Manual. I’ll have a giveaway for two copies of this book posted early next week for US and Canadian readers.

Join in for one day or all three. There will be mini-challenges throughout the weekend.

Will you be reading this weekend?

Good luck, Leslie! It sounds like you’ll have to do a LOT of gardening and walking to get through all of that! 🙂 Just getting through some of it would be nice, I’m sure. Hope the weather will be nice for your outdoor activities.

I’m also joining in, but Friday is a normal day for us here, so I can’t take the whole day “off” for reading.

I took King’s latest out on hold from the library, but then decided not to read it because I didn’t think I’d have time. However, I’ll still be interested in what others like yourself think of it.

As for myself, I have a bunch of smaller crime fiction books planned…

I hope you have a wonderful weekend of reading. This is going to be so much more enjoyable than fighting through crowds. 🙂

    Good luck with the read-a-thon!
I’m glad to hear that the Stephen King book is so good…l don’t usually read him, but this one sounded so different, and the premise is fascinating.

I’m hoping to read a little in either Crossed or Language of Flowers this weekend. I love having no pressure!

Looks like you got some great reading ahead of you. I’m reading for Thankfully Reading Weekend too. I am currently trying to finish a few books I started. I hope to get through at least 3 this weekend.

Leslie, I wish I could join you, but I will be lucky to get in just a bit of reading. But, I was lucky to read on a recent flight back home. Enjoy!! 🙂

I’m staying as far away from the malls and the madness as I can! I don’t know how far I’ll get in the books I’m reading this weekend, but I’ll certainly enjoy every minute of it! I’m reading THE INVISIBLE ONES by Stef Penney this evening and so far it’s really good! You’ve got some interesting titles on your list – I’m going to check out that King book myself. Enjoy!

I’m reading 11/22/63 now as well and agree: it’s good! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts when you finish!

I have I Gave My Heart To Know This and 11/22/63 sitting on my shelves as well. I’ve been hearing great things about 11/22/63 and may have to pick it up sooner than originally planed.
