Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Resolve to Read in 2011

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Not including the ARCs I have already committed to reading, here are the top ten books that I want to read in 2011, listed in no particular order.

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake

Blackout / All Clear by Connie Willis

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien

Birdology by Sy Montgomery

Birdology

The Bird Sisters by Rebecca Rasmussen

Kindred, The Sparrow and The Things They Carried have been recommended by many and have wonderful reviews so this is the year I resolve to read them.

Devil in the White City has been on my list for years. I live in the Chicago area and have always been interested in the history. So what am I waiting for?

Birdology was a Christmas grab bag gift that I ‘requested’ and I am anxiously awaiting the release of The Bird Sisters. As anyone who’s stopped by before knows, I love birds.

Connie Willis is one of my favorite authors. Her two newest books Blackout and All Clear involve the time traveling historians. Both are huge novels that I hope to complete for the Time Travel Challenge.

The Postmistress is one of my choices for the Amy Einhorn Challenge.

How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, about a time travel technician, sounds like a fun book if you like time travel scifi, which I do.

An excellent list, I think. Things They Carried…wow. And I’m attempting (once again) to read White City.

    Good luck!

Leslie — you make me smile every time I come to your blog…and today is just no different. Thank you…and I was thinking about it, do you have an ARC? I can’t quite remember, if not I can get you on the blogger list for the finished book in March (about a month before publication). Anyway, let me know + thank you so much.

    Love, Rebecca

You are the only other person I’ve seen so far that has The Devil in the White City on their list. I really want to read that one as well. I also want to read the Postmistress. They both have been on my TBR for quite some time.

I read Thunderstruck by Erik Larson this year and was impressed with the writing–I’ve heard that Devil in the White City is even better. Happy reading!
