Weekend Wrap Up

Thankfully Reading WeekendThankfully Reading Weekend
I didn’t read as much as I would have liked but I did finish one audio book and got halfway through the second one. I listened while I cleaned up the house on Friday and did errands on Saturday. As I get more accustomed to the audio format I’m enjoying it more. I first started listening to books while I did gardening or yardwork. Now I find myself considering audio books more often and even listen on my walk from the train on weekdays.

  • Finished audio book of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
    Loved it. Review coming soon.
  • I got half way through the audio book Packing For Mars by Mary Roche.
Very interesting look at the space program.
  • Started Three Seconds by Anders Roslund and Borge Hellstrom; read the first section, 132 pages.
This is an ARC I’m reading with the Barnes & Noble First Look discussion group.

I have not yet started Three Seconds. I hope it is as good as it sounds. I read one book over the weekend and was happy with that. You did well. I love how there really was no pressure involved. Just read and enjoy!

Three Seconds is very good. In the first few chapters you don’t really know what’s going on. The background information is revealed bit by bit making you want to keep reading. I didn’t want to stop at the first section break but I won’t read ahead because that spoils the discussion.

It does take a little while to get used to audio books, but once you do, they’re great. I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle too!

Sounds like you did pretty good of your reading weekend! Kingslover and Roach are two of my favorite authors so I hoped you liked those books!

Leslie, it sounds like you had a very good Thankfully Reading Weekend! (Not me, I ate too much and read too little.) I really like the idea of audio books, yet have not listened to any in ages.

    Congrats to Jeanette! 🙂

Every few months they have a new ARC for discussion. They make the sign-up announcement in their book club forum. I’ve participated in a few this year, all excellent choices.

For some reason, audiobooks don’t really bake my cookies. I have only listed to one that made me want to keep listening and listening. I think it really depends on the narrator’s voice, pitch and emotive reading. Three Seconds is supposed to be very good; looking forward to what you think of it.

Can’t wait to read Packing for Mars — this one sounds really interesting. My daughter is really into the planets right now and space, etc, so it might be good to have some answers for her 🙂
