Mailbox Monday ~ September 27th

Mailbox Monday is touring through blogs. In September it is hosted by Bermudaonion’s Weblog. Next week the tour moves to She Reads and Reads where it will be hosted for the month of October.

Mailbox Monday was created by The Printed Page. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their home last week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing new in my mailbox last week but I did go to a Friends of the Library sale and came home with the following books:
I was looking for books which are choices for the 2011 Women of SF Book Club and found two of them plus a few others. The science fiction section was pretty well picked over by the time I got there but I did find a few more books worth grabbing including reprints of two novels by Alfred Bester, neither of which I have read. And to round it out I browsed through the women’s fiction and found one of the latest Anita Shreve books and an older book by Alice Hoffman.
    I love library sales! You never know what you’re going to find. At my library’s last sale I found a beautiful hardcover illustrated edition of To Kill a Mockingbird for $2! All of the titles you picked up are new to me. Hope you enjoy them! Here’s my Mailbox.
    Yay, I’m glad my post about the book club prompted you to join as well. And how great that you found at least two of the books already! The Sparrow is intense and disturbing (one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever read), but really good. I really didn’t like Testimony though, which was very disappointing because Shreve used to be one of my favourite writers. (I didn’t like her next book either, which is why I’m having to reconsider her “favourite” status.) Enjoy your books and I look forward to chatting with you about SF next year!
      I had heard somewhere that The Sparrow was good and when I saw it on the one dollar table I grabbed it. I like Anita Shreve’s earlier novels better than the more recent ones, but I keep buying because I’m a big fan. Eden Close was the first one I read and is still my favorite. And yeah, I’m looking forward to the SF Book Club next year.
    I thought I had a lot of books… you have MORE! Green with envy!
    From the comments above will have to look into Testimony. I have a Shreve in my library waiting to be read.. arghhhh… I buy impulsively and always wonder when I’ll get to them.
    Enjoy the reads 🙂
