Wordless Wednesday: Deceptively Cute Cottontail

Cottontail Rabbit

Almost Wordless: A pair of Cottontail Rabbits have been hanging around in my garden. They are deceptively cute and will devour tasty young plants in no time. I already caught them eating the hosta. I’m keeping my eye on you bunny!

    Hi Leslie,

We don’t get rabbits in the garden, but we have just as many problems with squirrels and the occasional badger who decides to dig a pit! Oh! and of course the herons, who are keeping a keen eye on our fish ponds and searching for a way ro infiltrate the protecting wires!

Your bunnie is certainly cute though, who couldn’t love a face like that?

    Have a good day, Yvonne

Squirrels are a problem too, they dig but don’t eat the plants. I’ve never had a badger stop by, I don’t think I live in their range. The herons fly overhead but unless they want to use the bird bath, there isn’t enough water for them in my yard.

So cute. unfortunately, the bunnies in my neighborhood are likely to steer clear as my husky has already killed one. 😦

I think the hawks go after the bunnies too.

Two words: dried blood. It seems to work on bunnies and deer. Awesome shot though.

Haven’t heard of dried blood as a repellant before. If the fencing doesn’t work I may go for it!

It gets worse… when they have babies, they are even cuter! I had a nest a few years ago and the little ones were adorable. Destructive times five!

He is very cute, though the munching on your garden part isn’t good. Aww!

I raised rabbits when I was young. We lived on the edge of town, and all I had to do was walk across the road into cornfields. We had all sorts of wildlife come through those cornfields and into our yard, and what’s very strange is that none of them ever chowed down on our large tasty garden! I have an idea why they didn’t, but it’s fanciful more than factual. 🙂
