Mailbox Monday ~ November 5th

Welcome to Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia of To Be Continued, a place where readers share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.

After several years of being on tour with different blogs as the monthly host, the Mailbox Monday Blog is now the permanent home for the meme.

No new books but I did receive some audiobook downloads in the past few weeks.

This month the Audio Publishers Association (APA) is once again sponsoring a month-long blog tour and giveaway, A Good Audiobook Speaks Volumes, and will be giving away a set of eight audiobook downloads throughout the month of November on each participating blog.

Mailbox Monday ~ October 22nd

Welcome to Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia of To Be Continued, a place where readers share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.

After several years of being on tour with different blogs as the monthly host, the Mailbox Monday Blog is now the permanent home for the meme.

I’m enjoying the cooler autumn weather and the changing colors, but not looking forward to the inevitable snow that follows. NOAA is predicting an El Niño and a warmer winter this year for most of the US. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed. As many of you know, I’m not a cold weather person!

One new book this week, a cookbook from LibraryThing. I can never have too many cookbooks!

New Arrivals

Now & Again by Julia Turshen from LibraryThing.

Mailbox Monday ~ October 15th

Welcome to Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia of To Be Continued, a place where readers share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.

I’m a little late getting this up today, but I did get some books last week that I wanted to share. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for me, and I have had little time for reading. I worked a couple of part-time jobs and that really threw me off schedule. I used to be so organized when I worked full-time and now I feel like I’m scrambling around when I need to rearrange my schedule. Phew, that’s over for now, and hopefully I can get back to normal, whatever normal is!

New Arrivals

Come with Me by Helen Schulman from Harper.

From Helen Schulman, the acclaimed author of the New York Times bestseller This Beautiful Life, comes another “gripping, potent, and blisteringly well-written story of family, dilemma, and consequence” (Elizabeth Gilbert)—a mind-bending novel set in Silicon Valley that challenges our modern constructs of attachment and love, purpose and fate.

Tony’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani from Harper.

Set in the lush Big Band era of the 1940s and World War II, this spellbinding saga from beloved New York Times bestselling author tells the story of two talented working class kids who marry and become a successful singing act, until time, temptation and the responsibilities of home and family derail their dreams

Review and Giveaway: Book and Movie Tickets

The Astronaut’s Son by Tom Seigel

About the Book

Publisher: Woodhall Press | September 2018
Format: Hardcover | 232 pages

Jonathan Stein thinks only a bad heart can stop him from reaching the moon. But when he discovers his father may have been murdered to protect an appalling NASA secret, he must decide whether his moral compass still points towards the stars.

Days before the Apollo 18 launch in 1974, Jonathan’s father, an Israeli astronaut at NASA, died of an apparent heart attack. A year before his own launch, in 2005, Jonathan, a typically devout skeptic, becomes captivated by the tale of a mysterious online conspiracy theorist who claims that his father had been killed. Unable to keep long-buried suspicions from resurfacing, he reopens the case, digging into a past that becomes stranger and more compelling the deeper he goes.

To get to the truth he must confront Dale Lunden, his father’s best friend and the last man on the moon, and his elusive childhood hero, Neil Armstrong. When his relentless pursuit leads to disturbing revelations about the Nazis who worked for NASA, the hardest questions to answer are the ones he must ask himself.

My Thoughts

I’ve always been a science geek and have followed the space program from its beginning, so no surprise that I enjoyed this book right from the start.

The plot is fast moving and engaging, and real life events are mixed seamlessly into the plot to form a captivating tale. There is a combination of genres – conspiracy thriller, mystery, and science. There’s a lot to keep the reader’s interest. Was there a government conspiracy to fake the moon landing? Were Nazis working for NASA? Did someone murder Jonathan’s father? Jonathan sets out to get the answers to his questions and learn the truth.

Interesting and thought provoking, this is a novel that will appeal to a wide range of readers.
