Mailbox Monday and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday was created by The Printed Page. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their home last week.
Mailbox Monday is currently on tour, hosted by a different blog each month. The July host is Mrs. Q Book Addict.
Weekend Update
I’m still recovering from yesterday’s storm that blew through the Chicago area at 100 miles per hour.
I was sitting on my deck having coffee, reading the paper and enjoying my Sunday morning when what seemed like out of nowhere the sky darkened and the winds picked up. Within minutes the storm was upon us. I barely had time to take down the sun umbrella and move my potted plants to safety.
We had minor damage with some downed tree limbs and many of my plants in the vegetable garden shredded by the high winds and hail but everyone is ok. Power came back at my house during the night but a lot of the town is still without. I’m still cleaning up the yard and will be back to see what books everyone else received later today.
Here is the quick version of what arrived this week:
New Arrivals
The Violinist’s Thumb by Sam Kean
Tigers in Red Weather by Liza Klaussmann
Charlotte Markham and the House of Darkling by Michael Boccacino
The Orphanmaster by Jean Zimmerman
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
Share what you read last week and what you are currently reading.
This week I’ll be finishing up The Chaperone and Redshirts and then starting The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Rebecca for the read-a-long at BookJourney.
Now I’m off to do more yard clean-up before it gets too hot to breath outside with temps going into the upper 90s again.

Sorry about the storm in your area! It’s a little scary when those things come up so fast, isn’t it and I hate hail. So destructive if they have any size to them. Good luck with your cleanup!!

They were pea sized hail so the house was ok but they still managed to shred some of my garden, plants like cucumbers, beans and squash were all ripped apart.

Looks like you got some great books. Glad everyone is ok there. We had the same storm here in the DC region and boy did it come from no where and caused damage throughout the region. We only lost power for about 10 seconds…but there were downed trees in different areas…around us, but only a few limbs in our own yard.

I am still seeing reports of power outages and storm damage from that storm on the east coast a few days earlier.

Amazing how quickly some storms can come up. Glad you’re okay. Tigers in Red Weather has shown up a lot, alas, not in my mailbox but it sounds really good. Rebecca is a terrific read. Have a great week, happy reading and a fun 4th!

We were very lucky. We were one of the first areas to have power restored. Parts of town have power lines down and it’s going to be a few days for them.

Some nice new books there! And I wonder what you think of Harold Fry. Some people liked it so-so, I want to read it.
Glad you didn’t have too much problems with the storm!

The storm you got yesterday we’re getting now.
You received one of the books, THE ORPHAN MASTER, that I’ve been trying to win.
I just finished THE EDUCATION OF KOKO, which is about a gorilla being taught sign language. It was a disappointment. Now I’m reading THE SKELETON BOX, which, after 100 pages, is very good. I think it took too long, though.

Glad you’re ok! In the Spring those kind of storms are an ever afternoon occurrance…but I never get used to it. I potted my tomatoes this year and an unexpected benefit has been the ability to move them to safety when needed.
