R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril, XII

A Favorite Event

It’s September, and that means it’s time for one of my favorite reading events, R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril. After hosting RIP for the past 11 years, Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings has passed it on to Heather and Andi.

The event runs from September 1st through October 31st. There are multiple levels of peril to choose from, even a one book option for the time challenged.

For the last few years I have avoided most challenges; I usually fail at them, plus they add a level of stress I don’t need. But RIP books are from genres I enjoy, so for me it’s become an annual event.

There are only two simple goals for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril:

1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.

Genres to choose from:

Mystery | Suspense | Thriller | Dark Fantasy | Gothic | Horror | Supernatural

I’m Choosing Peril the First

Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (the very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be King or Conan Doyle, Penny or Poe, Chandler or Collins, Lovecraft or Leroux . . . or anyone in between.

Other challenges to choose from are Peril the Movie, Peril the Short Story, and Peril the Group Read. For anyone new to R.I.P., you do not have to be a blogger to participate.

My Book Choices

Here are the first two books I’m planning to read, a near-future thriller and a psychological thriller. I’m still deciding on the other two. I’m looking for some good horror (probably Joe Hill or Stephen King) and a mystery. And sometimes I read more than four. I did mention this is a favorite genre of mine so it gets difficult to choose.

How to Participate

Ooh, you’re reading just noticed a new book by Andy Weir, but it doesn’t seem to be out until November I guess. I’ll be interested in how you like it.
