Wordless Wednesday: Northern Flicker

Almost wordless: While out monitoring for breeding birds, I came upon a pair of Northern Flickers defending their tree from a young Cooper’s Hawk. The male had stopped diving at the hawk and glared at him from the top of a snag.

Good capture! Flickers often visit my bird feeders.

Nice shot. We see the Northern Flicker in the summer, but soon they will depart.
