Mailbox Monday ~ November 10th
Welcome to Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia of To Be Continued, a place where readers share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.
After several years of being on tour with different blogs as the monthly host, the Mailbox Monday Blog is now the permanent home for the meme.
With only a few straggling blooms here and there, there are no flowers for my photo this week. Almost everything has been packed up and put away for the winter. I am so not ready for the cold, though.
Here are last week’s new books…
New Arrivals
Prince Lestat by Anne Rice from Random House Audio.
A stunning departure, a surprising and compelling return…From Anne Rice, perennial best seller, single-handed reinventor of the vampire cosmology-a new, exhilarating novel, a deepening of her vampire mythology, and a chillingly hypnotic mystery-thriller.
The Happiest People in the World by Brock Clarke from Algonquin.
Take the format of a spy thriller, shape it around real-life incidents involving international terrorism, leaven it with dark, dry humor, toss in a love rectangle, give everybody a gun, and let everything play out in the outer reaches of upstate New York—there you have an idea of Brock Clarke’s new novel.
I Take You by Eliza Kennedy from Crown Books.
Brilliantly executed and endlessly funny, this page-turning debut showcases one of the most winning, irrepressible voices since Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones.
Genesis Code by Jamie Metzl from Tandem Literary.
Set in a future that may yet come to pass, “Genesis Code” is a thriller of the next generation, when genetic engineering, personal ambition, religious fundamentalism, and the potential explosiveness of big power politics meet.
How was your week?

My roses are going crazy of late – they’re loving the mild weather. But soon they’ll get hot and cranky!
I like the idea of Genesis Code, sounds really good.

Anne Rice’s vampires? No? I thought everyone knew who they were. 🙂

I Take You caught my interest. I’ll look for it.
We finished up the last of the garden clean up yesterday. My husband looked at me and said it’s his least favorite day of the year because there’s no more enjoying the temperate outdoors (especially with another rumored polar vortex waiting in the wings).

Everything is washed and packed away here too. At least this year we had some good weather for cleanup… last year it got cold and snowy so fast we just shoved everything in the garage! I am not looking forward to ‘Polar Vortex 2.0’ either.

I won The Happiest People in the World by Brock Clarke from Algonquin, too. I haven’t planned when to read it, though. Soon, I guess. When will you read it. Maybe I can read it before you do so I can comment on your review and/or share mine.

Azaleas are so pretty – and one of the few plants that don’t grow well for me.

I was surprised to see a new Lestat book. I’ve read most of them … and in print. I decided to try audio this time when I saw Simon Vance was the narrator. So this will be a new vampire experience for me!

I read most of the Vampire Chronicles – the first 8 or 9 of them – years ago, and then I burned out on them.

great reading ahead of you. I agree I’m so not ready for the winter. I have a fern still green outside, but… beyond that everything else is in.

One of the many negatives of winter is the loss of blooms and color. All the plants that I want to save have been dug up and re-potted. Most are inside now but a few are still out on the deck taking advantage of the last few days of mild weather and sunshine.

Leslie, enjoy your new books! They are new to me (at least at this point in the day). We are finally getting some cooler weather here in CA. 🙂
