Wordless Wednesday: Viceroy Butterfly
Almost wordless: I thought I had spotted my first Monarch of the season but a closer look revealed this to be a Viceroy, a Monarch mimic. They are slightly smaller and have a black line running across the veins on the hindwing.

Interesting. I had no idea there were so many kinds of butterflies!

Well done! I’m waiting for my new camera to arrive so I snap some birds and butterflies again.

I thought Monarch too. I did come across a migrating group of about 100 a couple of years ago. Nice shot.

Gorgeous. I was fascinated by butterflies as a kid, and decided the viceroy was my favourite (because it was a great pretender).

Isn’t that gorgeous?! I would have thought itwas a monarch, too (even though I grow plants specifically to attract monarchs).

I don’t often see these (Viceroys), but I did have a female Monarch laying eggs on the swamp milkweed in the backyard the other day. Here’s hoping this is a good butterfly year.
