Ready For The Read-a-thon

Let the Reading Begin!

Hundreds of book bloggers are participating in this event, all starting at the same time. Here in Chicago that was 7am.

I’ll be listening to audio this morning and afternoon with a few hours off to do a little bird watching. Later this evening I will be reading print books.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Parrots Prove Deadly, one of my audiobooks.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I have healthy snacks today. Apples and oranges, and a big jar of mixed nuts for energy. And then there is that box of microwave popcorn with the extra butter for later tonight.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I love birds! See: Weekend Birding. If you’ve been here before, you already know this.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?

As silly as this sounds, Read More! I get easily distracted by all the challenges and visiting other blogs.

Hour 4 Mini-Challange: Re-Title Your Current Read

I’m listening to Written in Red by Anne Bishop, the first book in a new urban fantasy series. I’m loving the story but the title doesn’t describe much.

I would rename it to:

Shape-shifting Wolves, Owls, Crows and Vampires Rule the World and Eat Humans.

Hour 8 Mini-Challenge: Book Sentence

Create a sentence using only book titles.

“A long, long time ago the witch of Babylon screwed those we love most.”

This challenge is always fun. The fact that it only took me a few minutes to make a sentence probably means I have too many books!

Take a picture of the place and/or book you are reading currently and post it.

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Written in Red most of the day but when I take a break and sit out on my deck I’m reading The Apple Orchard.

Hour 11 is Happy Hour, so a glass of wine is in order!

Good Night!

It’s almost 2am and while I still have the stamina to stay awake a few more hours, I need to get some sleep so I can be alert for a 7:30am bird walk. It’s migration season and the birds are out and about early. Plus it’s going to be another nice day. Hope everyone had a successful Readathon!

End of Event Meme

• Which hour was most daunting for you?
  None really. When I needed to tend to tasks like cooking I went to audio. I didn’t make the entire 24 hours. I ended early at 2am because I had a birding event in the morning and needed a few hours sleep.
• Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
  I only read two books, and both were fairly long. I was already a few chapters into each of them so I already knew I would like the books.
• Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
  No, it was so well organized I can’t think of anything.
• What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? I liked that some of the mini-challenges went on for more than two hours. That way if I took a break from the computer for a few hours I could still participate. The mini-challenges are half the fun!
• How many books did you read? Two.
• What were the names of the books you read?
  Written in Red by Anne Bishop and The Apple Orchard by Susan Wiggs.
• Which book did you enjoy most? Which did you enjoy least?
  I enjoyed both of them.
• If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
  Was not a cheerleader.
• How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

Definitely. I would participate as a reader and perhaps host a mini-challenge. This is one of my favorite events.
